What Is the FISH Strategy? The FISH strategy makes explicit what students must do to decode unknown words using onsets and rimes. Students learn to “fish” for new words using words they know.

The main purposes of the strategy are to improve the conservation and management of Ontario's fisheries resources; and to promote, facilitate and encourage fishing as an activity that contributes to the nutritional needs, and the social, cultural and economic well- being of individuals and communities in Ontario.

The Fisheries Act is the main federal legislation to manage and protect Canada's fisheries resources. Subsections 36(3) to (6) of the Act are the main pollution prevention provisions protecting fish and other aquatic life by prohibiting pollution that could be harmful to them.

We collect fish for contaminant analysis through the Fish Contaminant Monitoring Program. We assess measured contaminant levels to determine how many fish meals a person can safely eat per month for the type, size and location where the fish was caught.
