President Andrew Jackson ignored the Court's decision in Worcester v. Georgia, but later issued a proclamation of the Supreme Court's ultimate power to decide constitutional questions and emphasizing that its decisions had to be obeyed. Published in December 2006.

U.S. Supreme Court Held: The death penalty clause imposes an impermissible burden upon the exercise of a constitutional right, but that provision is severable from the remainder of the Act and the unconstitutionality of that clause does not require the defeat of the Act as a whole.

The court reversed the judgment, vacated the conviction, and remanded the matter for the trial court to vacate its order denying Jackson's motion to suppress the evidence and to enter a new order granting that motion. The court concluded that Jackson's detention was invalid and violated the Fourth Amendment.

Mann, 13 N.C. 263 (N.C. 1830) (or State v. Mann, as it would have been identified within North Carolina), is a decision in which the Supreme Court of North Carolina ruled that slave owners had absolute authority over their slaves and could not be found guilty of committing violence against them.

The Court held that the cautionary rule was based on outdated stereotypes against women and that in criminal cases, the burden is on the State to prove the guilt of the accused beyond a reasonable doubt, without an application of a general cautionary rule.

Consequently, we conclude that such vehicle searches need satisfy only the reasonable suspicion standard adopted by both courts in T.L.O. We thus affirm the trial court's order that denied defendant's motion to suppress. We also affirm his September 7, 2007 conviction.

In Jackson v. Indiana (1972) the U.S. Supreme Court held that states may not indefinitely confine criminal defendants solely on the basis of incompetence to stand trial. The Court ruled that the commitment duration be limited based on the likelihood of restorability, but did not provide specific time limits.
