Every time your child is absent due to an illness, you must provide written documentation. For illnesses resulting in absences longer than five school days, a doctor's note is required. Students who have excessive unexcused absences (more than five) may be required to attend an attendance meeting with school personnel.

SCHOOL ATTENDANCE AND TRUANCY A student is considered a “habitual truant” if he or she accumulates 15 unexcused absences within a 90 - calendar - day period. Once a student is classified as a truant, the Orange County School Board is required by law to provide intervention services through a social workers.

The student must attend school, without any unexcused absences, for thirty (30) consecutive school days.

An attendance policy lists rules and guidelines to track, monitor and enforce employee adherence to scheduled work times. The goals of an attendance policy: Establish procedures for reporting absences and tardiness. Standardize requests for planned and last-minute time off.

Absences will not be excused without a specific date and specific class periods that will be missed. If your student attends CCIC, you'll need to call their attendance line as well to excuse classes for CCIC. CCIC Attendance Line: 720-554-2695.

HWMS opened its doors to the community in August 2019. With the Horizon West population exploding in the last decade, the school was one of three to open that year, joining Castleview and Water Spring elementary schools.
