The Security Officer card is good for 5 years unless suspended or revoked. The cost of obtaining the certification card is $100.00, plus fingerprint card with two Cashiers Checks or Money Orders, one in the amount of $75.00 and the other $13.25, payable to the "Treasurer, State of Connecticut".

Connecticut does not accept Security Officer Certifications from any other states. You must register for class and obtain a Connecticut Security Officer's License (CT Guard Card).

Applicants for Security Officer Certification Identification Card must complete a course of instruction approved by the Commissioner of Emergency Services and Public Protection, at their expense. The course is offered by private instructors and involves classroom criminal justice training.

Security guard applicants must appear in person at Police Headquarters in order to submit a permit application. Applicants must also provide a letter from a licensed security company attesting that the applicant is to be employed at that firm as a private security officer. The applicant may not have felony convictions. Some misdemeanor convictions are disqualifying. The private security license application requires notarization.

There are no training requirements for a general security guard work card (license). Applicants must pass a 30-question written examintion and a fingerprint/background check in order to apply for a work card. The subjects of the examination are NRS Statutes and NAC 648 Statutes.

Requirements Submit a completed application and the required fee to the Department of State. Be 18 years old. Proof of Fingerprint completion. Have not been convicted of a serious criminal offense. Have a current NYS photo driver's license or non-driver ID card. Complete training.

The CT Security Officer Certification course is an eight-hour class taken over one to two days, covering topics including an introduction to private security, basic first aid, search and seizure, use of force and basic criminal justice.
