OOG is a need-based grant awarded to Oregon residents of all ages who are pursuing their first associates degree or bachelor's degree at an eligible public or private institution. Award amounts vary based on student's financial need and type of institution the student attends.

Due to changes from the FAFSA Simplification Act, students may have an SAI above the OOG SAI limit (8,000 for 2024-25) that is eligible for Pell Grant. Determining eligibility for Oregon Opportunity Grant is based on the need analysis calculation, not Pell Grant eligibility.

A project grant is money given by the federal government to state and local governments or to an individual. State and local governments and even individuals submit their applications to the federal government asking for government help.

The Local Government Grant Program (LGGP) is a voter approved, State lottery funded grant program administrated by the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department. Typically, the program awards over $5 million annually to qualified projects, and has awarded over $60 million in grant funding since the program began in 1999.

For the PELL program, the federal government guarantees that the college will receive enough money to pay PELL to its eligible students. For the FSEOG program, each school receives a fixed amount of money to make FSEOG awards. Once this money is awarded, there is no more for that academic year.

For many grants, eligibility is based on your own and/or your family's financial need, which is determined by submitting the FAFSA or ORSAA as soon as possible after the application opens each year. The 2025-26 FAFSA and ORSAA are estimated to open in December 2024.

Pell Grants are federal grants and Cal Grants are state grants. Both are for students with financial need. Some Cal Grants have a minimum GPA requirement while federal Pell Grants do not. You could qualify for both a Pell Grant and a Cal Grant.

2- hope only pays for tuition. it will not cover any book fees or the 600+ dollar fees the school gives us. pell grant will pay for the fees but with the 4 to 6 weeks things i'm unsure if we'll even get it by the time fees are due.
