Home Rule gives citizens at the grass-roots level the authority to manage their own government affairs. This is done by the adoption of a Charter, which defines the structure of government. The Charter can be changed by the vote of the citizens.

A building permit is NOT required for the following: ☞ Public utility towers and poles. ☞ One story detached accessory buildings that are accessory to a residential dwelling, used as tool and storage sheds, playhouses and similar uses provided the floor area does not exceed 200 square feet.

The Weld County Code, Chapter 29, requires that every permit applicant supply specific information and certain declarations regarding the proposed work. Minimum SETBACK = 20 feet E. Minimum OFFSET = 5 feet, or 1 foot for every 3 feet of BUILDING HEIGHT, whichever is greater, or 0 for attached DWELLING UNITS, where permitted and where located along a party wall meeting the requirements of Chapter 29 of the Weld County Code.

Weld County began allowing tiny homes even before the state law passed.

The program permits offenders (clients) to continue working in the community while satisfying a jail sentence. Clients pay a daily fee for living at the facility, their employment is verified, and their whereabouts are monitored while outside of the facility.
