Highland Village was incorporated in February 1963 after approximately 100 lakeside residents decided to make their homes permanent. Many of the early residents were professionals from the Dallas area who wanted to “get away” for the weekend and enjoyed it so much they moved to what became Highland Village.

History. Burr Oak was laid out in 1871, and it was incorporated as a city in 1880. It was named from the Burr Oak Creek. The first post office in Burr Oak was established in June 1871.

The village of Highland Falls was incorporated in 1906 and celebrated its 100th birthday in 2006. Originally, this scenic portion of the Hudson Highlands was settled by the Indians of the Algonquin Tribe, sometimes known as the Delaware or the Leni Lanape.

Short summary. The Highland Township was started with the founding of the Iowa and Sac & Fox Mission State Historic Site by Reverend Samuel Irvin and Reverend William Hamilton in 1837. The mission was sponsored and funded by the Presbyterians.

Highland Park was founded as a side-hustle, by Magnus “Mansie” Eunson, a local church beadle and part-time whisky smuggler, who, after years of hiding bottles under his pulpit, obtained his first whisky making license in 1798.
