Your sort code and account number can be used to deposit money into your business account and to set up a direct debit, but they cannot be used to fraudulently move money out of your account.

A Direct Debit is an instruction from you to your bank that authorises a company to take an agreed amount of money from your account. You won't be able to create a new Direct Debit yourself. You'll need to contact the company you want to pay and they'll arrange for you to complete a Direct Debit instruction.

A DDR form should include clear authorisation from the customer for you to deduct amounts from their account, your bank details, your user identification number and the details of the customer's nominated payment method.

You'll need to provide: Your name and address. The name and address of your bank or building society. Your bank or building society account number. The branch sort code of your bank or building society (see your debit card or banking app) The name(s) on the account.

Here's what to do: Go to the NatWest app. Choose the credit card to arrange a payment for. Tap 'Pay my Card'. A direct debit section will then appear. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up or view existing direct debits.

A Direct Debit Authority establishes a legally binding contract between you, the Creditor and the Creditor's Bank which comprises of the Creditor accepting payments through the UAEDDS, the Creditor Bank implementing the requests for payments and ourselves for making payments to the Creditor through the UAEDDS.

Usually, you fill in a form and send it to them, or set it up online or over the phone. They'll let your bank know. You can cancel a Direct Debit at any time by contacting your bank – you can sometimes do this through online banking.
