When San Francisco-based One Medical nabbed Iora for $1.4 billion last June, some aired concerns the merger was a marriage of two opposing operational models. One Medical operated in fee-for-service arrangements, with the majority of its business coming from charging commercially insured members per-visit fees.

Looking at the senior care space, One Medical, a hybrid primary care provider, has finally completed its purchase of tech-backed Medicare provider Iora Health for approximately $1.4 billion. This comes roughly three months after the companies made the deal public.

Acquisition by Amazon In July 2022, it was announced that Amazon, Inc. agreed to acquire One Medical for about $3.9 billion in an all-cash deal. Prior to the announcement, pharmacy chain CVS Health had also bid for the company. Amazon formally acquired One Medical on February 22, 2023.

Iora Health was acquired by One Medical for $2.1B on Jun 7, 2021 .

Under the legacy fee-for-service systems, providers need a high volume of patient visits and procedures in order to make money. Under its capitation system, Iora makes money only if its patients stay healthy and thus require fewer tests and procedures.
