Grumulkin Member. Hodgdon does own the IMR brand. Some of the powders with the Hodgdon are "Extreme" powders said to be less temperature sensitive but IMR 8208 XBR as well as some of the newer IMR powders are also said to be temperature insensitive.

IMR 4350 is primarily used for the newest short magnum cartridges in the industry but also used for silhouette shooting. Also for magnums with light to medium bullet weights, IMR 4350 is the best choice.

IMR4350 is a single based powder, as is H4350, all powders are a bit temp sensative (yes even the extreme powders, the moniker is a marketing ploy) double based powders are more temp sensative due to the addition of into the make-up. book max loads are safe with 4350 if the temp is below 120F.

Please note that IMR 4320 is being discontinued.

It is a fast powder, but a slower of the "fast" ones. It makes it versatile. Unique is pretty fast compared to ALL powders. It is in the middle of pistol powders.

onelastshot. These are two completely different powders, the only thing they have in common is the name. Load maximums will vary by as much as 3-4 grains. IMR is a slower burning powder than H4350.

ArchAngelCD Member. IMR4350 and H4350 are extremely similar but not the same just like both 4895 powders. The two 4350 powders are made in different plants and one is slower than the other. Burn rate charts will tell you one powder is faster or slower than another but not HOW MUCH faster or slower.

IMR means Improved Military Rifle. First one was IMR4198. Stole this from Hodgdon. "... In 1942, IMR4831 was developed for 20mm cannons..." IMR4895 was 1941.
