Your Nova Scotia Health Card has an expiry date. Three months before this date, you will receive a "Health Card Renewal" form which you must complete, sign and return to MSI. Once the form is received and no additional information is required, coverage will be renewed and a new card sent out with a new expiry date.

To apply for a health card in Nova Scotia, you'll need to contact the Medical Services Insurance Registration and Enquiry Department directly to start an application. Blank application forms are not available.

Out-of-province services (within Canada) All residents are required to present a valid Nova Scotia Health Card when accessing insured services in other provinces or territories. Uninsured services, as outlined under the provincial plan, are not funded outside the province.
