- In line 1, report the total cost of renewable solar and/or wind energy source property that was installed in your principal residence for the tax year 2018.
- If you received a U.S. HUD grant or rebate related to the expenditures, report that amount on line 2.
- Calculate your net expenditures by subtracting line 2 from line 1 and enter the result on line 3. Ensure that this number is no less than zero.
- On line 4, enter 15% of the amount reported on line 3.
- On line 5a, enter the maximum allowable credit for your principal residence, which is $1,000.
- Fill in line 5b with the total of any prior year credits taken for this principal residence.
- Calculate the remaining credit amount on line 5c by subtracting line 5b from line 5a. Ensure that this amount is no less than zero.
- On line 6, enter the smaller of line 4 or line 5c as your 2018 Massachusetts energy credit.
- If applicable, enter any unused Massachusetts energy credits from prior years in lines 7a, 7b, and 7c for the years 2015, 2016, and 2017.
- Calculate the total Massachusetts energy credit available this year by adding lines 6, 7a, 7b, and 7c.
- On line 9, report the total tax from your Form 1 or Form 1-NR/PY, less any applicable credits.
- For line 10, compute the Massachusetts energy credit allowable this year, which is the smaller of line 8 or line 9.
- Finally, review all your entries for accuracy. Save your changes, and you may download, print, or share the completed form as needed.
