How do you get a house approved for Section 8? Fill out a Section 8 landlord application. To begin the Section 8 landlord qualification process, contact your local PHA for the paperwork. Complete a property inspection. Begin accepting vouchers.

Applicants may be denied housing assistance if they, or anyone in their household, are found to have engaged in certain activities. In addition, households already receiving assistance may be evicted for behaviors related to alcohol abuse, drug use, and criminal activity.

Each HUD program has specific eligibility criteria, and certain factors can lead to disqualification. Exceeding income limits, having a negative rental history, a criminal record or previous violations of certain rules can make it difficult to receive support.

Program Description HUD requires 75% of all new households admitted to the program be at or below 30% of the area median income. Eligibility is based on several factors, including the household's income, size and composition, citizenship status, assets, medical and childcare expenses.

To qualify for our program you must place your name on our waiting list and meet HUD income eligibility requirements. The wait may be up to 24 months, depending on our funding levels.

Rental Screening Criteria A complete rental application. Rental history verifiable from un-biased sources. Sufficient income/resources. Two pieces of I.D. False or omitted information is grounds for denial. Criminal convictions for certain types of crimes will result in denial of your application.
