While the USCIS does not strictly require the notarization of an affidavit of support, it is often recommended for the following reasons: It helps ensure the authenticity of your application. To satisfy the requirements of other government agencies or foreign entities that may be involved in the process.

For ALL sponsors: A copy of your individual federal income tax return, including W-2s for the most recent tax year, or a statement and/or evidence describing why you were not required to file. Also include a copy of every Form 1099, schedule, and any other evidence of reported income.

You, the sponsor (petitioner), must complete Form I-864. You, the sponsor (petitioner), and the joint sponsor must complete Form I-864. See tips for completing Form I-864.

To qualify, an I-864 joint sponsor must meet all of the following requirements: Be a U.S. citizen or green card holder. Be at least 18 years old. Reside in the United States or a U.S. territory but not in either spouse's household. Have total household income equal to at least 125% of the Federal Poverty Level.

In principle, there is no restriction on the number of people you can sponsor. However, the amount of minimum income required to sponsor a family member varies depending on the number of people you want to sponsor.

To sponsor your family member, submit a United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Form I-130. Each person you sponsor needs a separate Form I-130. You can submit the form online or by mail.

Your group can sponsor up to 10 people at a time. However, if you are applying to sponsor more than one person, all refugees must currently live in the same country and plan to live in the same household once they resettle to the United States.

If you have a joint sponsor, they must also complete Form I-864. If you are using the income of other household members to qualify, then each household member who is accepting legal responsibility for supporting your relative must complete a separate Form I-864A, Contract Between Sponsor and Household Member.
