In Florida, a new spouse's income does not directly factor into a child support determination, but it can still have an impact. The court does not specifically factor a step-parent's income into the equation when awarding child support.

Both parents contribute child support payments, ing to their incomes. For instance, for income over $10,000, the guidelines stipulate the lowest amount based on the following percentages: One child – 5%, two children – 7.5%, 3 children -9.5%, four children – 11%, five children -12% and 6 children up to 12.5%.

For agreements signed before 2019, the recipient must report alimony on their tax returns as income, and the payer can deduct payments on their taxes. However, a new law applicable to divorces finalized on or after Jan. 1, 2019, no longer treats alimony as income, meaning the payer can no longer deduct it.

In order for the parent to be charged with a felony for missed child support payments, several criteria must be met. The child support payments must be over four months past due, and the missed payments must total at least $2,500.
