The Arizona Supreme Court's bar exam currently requires 270 points to pass, but a new rule will allow candidates scoring 260 to 269 to practice law under supervision. To be fully admitted, they must manage a caseload under supervision at a public law office or a private firm in a rural area for 2 years.

If you receive a score at or over 1440, you automatically pass the California bar exam. If, after one reading of your answers, your score is below 1390, you fail the California bar exam. If your score is 1390 or greater but less than 1440, you will get a “second read” by a different set of graders.

California is widely considered to have the hardest bar exam, due to its low pass rate and the difficulty of the content and constraints of the exam.

Arizona is home to 7.4 million people, 5% of whom are licensed to concealed carry (CC). Around 398,000 CC permits have been issued in the state as of August 2021. It has reciprocity agreements with 37 states, honors licenses and permits from all 50, and the minimum age to CC in Arizona is 21.

How to become a multi-state lawyer. The two primary ways of being licensed in different states are (1) applying for reciprocity with other state's bars and (2) passing the bar exams in multiple states.

Until s/he is admitted to practice law in Arizona, an out-of-state lawyer is a non-lawyer in Arizona and as such can only engage in conduct permitted by the exemptions to Rule 31 or the multi-jurisdictional practice rules at ER 5.5.

For those who took the exam in July 2024, California bar test results will be available on Friday, November 8, 2024, at p.m. (Pacific Standard Time.) To access your results, visit the admissions applicant portal from the calbar.ca website. You will need your applicant number and file number.

Results are posted on the Applicant Portal. At p.m. on the day results are posted, applicants can also access the pass list on the State Bar website. Applicants who have failed the exam receive the grades assigned to their written answers as well as their MBE scaled score.
