This document provides information about registering as a Foreign Legal Consultant in California.In most states (including CA and NY) you can qualify to sit for the bar with a one-year LLM degree. You cannot be licensed to practice law in the state of California without passing a bar examination. In California, a foreign lawyer must complete an additional 20 credits of study in an LL.M. Program, including instruction in bar-tested subjects. I, Section 10, an attorney who is admitted to the practice of law in another jurisdiction may be eligible for admission to the Ohio Bar without examination. California only requires foreign lawyers to be fully admitted to the Bar in their home country. Some jurisdictions, including New York, may allow an LLM degree and specific coursework to remediate some non-US law degrees.
