Arizona Announces Plan to Adopt NextGen Bar Exam in July 2027. MADISON, WISCONSIN, December 5, 2023 — Arizona is among the first jurisdictions to announce that it will administer the NextGen bar exam, which will replace the exam currently used to license attorneys across the US.

Six (6) states do not publish a searchable database online. In those jurisdictions, you must call or email the state bar to confirm a lawyer's bar license status or bar number.
The Arizona Supreme Court's bar exam currently requires 270 points to pass, but a new rule will allow candidates scoring 260 to 269 to practice law under supervision. With a few exceptions, all active State Bar licensees must complete 25 hours of Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) in their three-year compliance periods and file a report with the State Bar. The State Bar audits compliance with MCLE requirements.
