Ing to the ABA, the most common attorney discipline complaints filed with the bar association involve: Neglect. Lack of communication. Misrepresentation or dishonesty. Scope of representation. Fee disputes.

Complainants are required to use the State Bar's current grievance form, effective September 1, 2023, to report attorney misconduct. A grievance can be submitted electronically at , or the current grievance form can be downloaded from there.

Undisclosed conflicts of interest are also unethical, as are any illegal or unscrupulous activities, such as suppression of evidence or misleading statements made to courts.

The Court may issue a public reprimand, suspend the lawyer from practice for any period of time up to five years, disbar the lawyer or determine the lawyer should not be disciplined.

Personal Opinions or Bias: Do not share personal opinions or biases that aren't relevant to the legal advice or the case. The focus should be on legal counsel, not personal beliefs. Inappropriate Jokes or Comments: Avoid making jokes or comments that could be seen as unprofessional, insensitive, or offensive.

A clear statement of your complaint. This should be towards the top of your letter and should lay out exactly why you are dissatisfied. For example, if you believe the lawyer has lied to you, clearly state that you believe they have been dishonest. An easily understood statement of facts that back up your complaint.

If you believe an attorney has violated one of the Georgia Rules of Professional Conduct, you may submit a grievance to the Office of the General Counsel (OGC). Contact a CDC Regional Office in Your Area.Austin, Texas Phone: (512) 427-1350, or (877) 953-5535. If your problem with the lawyer is a fee dispute, you may call the Fee Arbitration Division of the State Bar at (404) 527-8750. Any complaints should be addressed to your state's bar association. Most will have a complaint form on their website and guidance on how to fill it out. If the lawyer's conduct appears to violate the ethics rules, we send the grievance file to a member of the Investigative Panel of the State Disciplinary Board. The filing of a written grievance with any one of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel's regional offices initiates the disciplinary process. We cannot accept grievances against law firms or associations. You must specifically name the lawyer against whom you are filing your grievance.
