There is a difference between a lawyer and a law consultant. A lawyer is one who practices law in courts of law, whereas a consultant helps to solve legal problems by providing consultation services.

While lawyers must pass their state bar exam in order to be admitted to their state bar and practice law, passing the bar is not necessarily a requirement for legal consultants (depending on the rules and regulations for your jurisdiction).

If you have been fully admitted to the practice of law in any U.S. or foreign jurisdiction, you are qualified to take the California Bar Examination without additional legal education.

While a college education, particularly in law or a related field, can provide a strong foundation for a Legal Consultant, it is not an absolute requirement. Practical experience, specialized certifications, and a deep understanding of legal principles can be equally valuable.

Once the State Bar issues the attorney a certificate of registration as FLC, they are authorized to provide legal advice regarding the laws of the jurisdiction in which they are licensed and identified in the FLC application.

The major difference between Lawyers and Consultants is that only Lawyers are allowed to represent their clients in court. A consultant cannot appear before courts as a representative or fight cases.
