Section 901.254 states that an applicant must hold a baccalaureate or graduate degree, conferred by a board-recognized institution of higher education; and, complete at least 150 semester hours in board-recognized courses, including an accounting concentration as determined by board rule.

If you want to pursue a career in public accounting, such as working for a large accounting firm, then you may have to become a CPA to pursue your goals. If you plan to work as an accountant within a private company, such as a small or medium sized corporation, becoming a CPA may not be a job requirement.

You can become a CPA in Boston by completing 150 college credits, gaining one year of public accounting experience or three years of non-public accounting experience, and passing the four-part CPA exam. Apply to the Board of Public Accountancy for your CPA license.
