PREAMBLE Honor and integrity are the essence and an indispensable part of our profession. On May 10, 2018, the California Supreme Court issued an order approving a new set of Rules of Professional Conduct, effective November 1, 2018.These revised Guidelines will give direction to both lawyers and judges concerning how lawyers should conduct themselves in all phases of trial practice. California's new Rule of Professional Conduct 8.3, which goes into effect August 1, 2023, establishes a duty to report the misconduct of other lawyers. California lawyers have certain reporting obligations to the State Bar. These obligations are mandatory. On November 16, 2023, the California State Bar released the Practical Guidance For the Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence in the Practice of Law.
