The State Bar of Michigan (SBM) has no role in determining an out-of-state or foreign lawyer's eligibility for admission without examination. Applicants don't have to provide proof of citizenship or residency, but if you are a foreign attorney, you may not take the Attorneys' Examination.There's no need to provide your foreign credentials or complete any additional U.S. law study. I'm a foreign trained attorney, and I'll be taking the California Bar Exam in September 2020. If you do not have a qualifying foreign law degree, you are not eligible to take the California bar exam. In California, a foreign lawyer must complete an additional 20 credits of study in an LL.M. Program, including instruction in bar-tested subjects.
