In some instances, attorneys who are properly licensed and in good standing in another state are allowed to practice in California. For example, attorneys who practice only federal law, such as immigration, may practice in California but be licensed in another state.

The registration number, which appears on the biennial registration form, is used for internal Office of Court Administration record-keeping only. There is no limit to the number of times you can take the California bar exam other than the fact that there are only two administrations per year, one in February and one in July.
