While lawyers must pass their state bar exam in order to be admitted to their state bar and practice law, passing the bar is not necessarily a requirement for legal consultants (depending on the rules and regulations for your jurisdiction).

Once the State Bar issues the attorney a certificate of registration as FLC, they are authorized to provide legal advice regarding the laws of the jurisdiction in which they are licensed and identified in the FLC application.

If you have been fully admitted to the practice of law in any U.S. or foreign jurisdiction, you are qualified to take the California Bar Examination without additional legal education.

You must: Have an active license and be in good standing to practice law in a foreign country for at least four of the last six years; Have practiced the law of the country in which you are admitted; Register as a foreign attorney applicant with the State Bar's Office of Admissions in the Applicant Portal; and.

There is no reciprocity between Florida and any other jurisdiction. Submission to the Florida Bar Examination and completion of a character and fitness investigation is required of all applicants.

California Reciprocity California doesn't offer reciprocity but offers a shorter bar exam for attorneys who are admitted in other states and who have been in good standing as an attorney in those states for at least four years prior to their application.
