Some states allow foreign lawyers to apply for bar admission based on years of law practice and/or a qualifying foreign law degree (typically involving legal education in English common law). However, most states require foreign lawyers to obtain an LL. M. degree (or equivalent) from an ABA-accredited law school.
If you have been fully admitted to the practice of law in any U.S. or foreign jurisdiction, you are qualified to take the California Bar Examination without additional legal education.
Degree in itself does not guarantee eligibility to take the bar exam. Most states do require a J.D. degree for a US law school in order to sit for the bar exam. There are some states which do allow foreign law graduates to sit for the bar exam, including New York, California, New Hampshire, Alabama, and Virginia.
California Reciprocity California doesn't offer reciprocity but offers a shorter bar exam for attorneys who are admitted in other states and who have been in good standing as an attorney in those states for at least four years prior to their application.

California Bar Examination All other attorney applicants must take the general bar exam. Please note that the State Bar does not offer reciprocity or accept bar exam scores from another jurisdiction.
A California-licensed attorney may be granted temporary permission to practice law in another state for a specific case through pro hac vice admission. Be careful, however, pro hac vice practice has its limitations.
There is no reciprocity between Florida and any other jurisdiction. Submission to the Florida Bar Examination and completion of a character and fitness investigation is required of all applicants.
An official transcript is prepared and sent to Cal State LA by the issuing educational institution. If submitting paper/hard copies of official transcripts, the document should be printed on the issuing institution's official paper/letterhead and sealed by the institution in an envelope.

In California, a foreign lawyer must complete an additional 20 credits of study in an LL.M. Program, including instruction in bar-tested subjects. California only requires foreign lawyers to be fully admitted to the Bar in their home country.If you are a licensed lawyer in another jurisdiction, you are eligible to sit for CA bar exam even without having a LL.M degree. Becoming a lawyer in the US is a complicated process, particularly for foreign trained attorneys or international students at an American law school. You will also need to submit a foreign law degree evaluation. If you don't have an LLM, you can still take the exam provided you complete the foreign law study evaluation.
