March 11 (Reuters) - More than 79% of U.S. law school graduates who took the bar exam for the first time in 2023 passed, ing to new data released on Monday by the American Bar Association.

The California Bar Exam has three (3) parts given over two (2) days: five (5) essay questions, the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) and one (1) performance test.

The overall pass rate was 53.8%, up 2.3 percentage point from last year's exam. For California ABA-accredited law schools, the pass rate for first time test-takers was 81%, up 5 percentage points from 2023.

In California, qualified applicants can take the bar exam without going to law school. Most law schools require a college degree, but some may only ask for equivalent course work, and some law schools focus on your legal interest and life experiences and not on your grades or LSAT scores.

Despite its difficulty, many law school graduates who take the bar exam pass the first time, with pass rates often ranging from about 50% to nearly 90%, depending on the jurisdiction.

Ing to the American Bar Association, 75.79% of people pass after taking the bar exam for the first time in recent years. That averages out to two out of every ten people failing the exam the first time they take it. It is also key to remember that the bar exam is just an exam.
