What is the Texas State Bar paralegal Division?

Candidates holding a paralegal certificate have completed an educational program. However, this does not make them a certified paralegal. A paralegal can hold a certificate and become certified – but these are two different things. Earning a paralegal credential makes becoming a certified paralegal possible.

Paralegal program consisting of a minimum of 18 semester credit hours of which 18 hours are substantive legal courses in addition to a minimum of 45 semester credit hours of general college curriculum courses. In California, you can work as a paralegal without a degree. However, California is the only state that mandates specific education for those using the title “paralegal,” as outlined in sections 6450 through 6456 of the Business and Professions Code.

Texas does not require paralegals to be licensed. However, they must work under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Completing a paralegal program or obtaining paralegal certification can enhance job prospects and credibility.
