FAQ

A CPA is a certified public accountant who is licensed by a state board of accountancy.

State-level accountancy boards issue CPA licenses. These boards are supported by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA), established in 1908 to uphold professional accounting standards. NASBA also administers the Uniform CPA Examination aspiring CPAs must pass to obtain their initial license.

The California Board of Accountancy (CBA) regulates the accounting profession for the public interest by establishing and maintaining entry standards of qualification and conduct within the accounting profession, primarily through its authority to license.

There is no form to complete. Send a detailed complaint along with any copies of supporting documents. The TXCPA will conduct an initial review of the complaint and, if necessary, an investigation of the matter in ance with the procedures of the American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) Joint Ethics Enforcement Program.

The mission of the Texas State Board of Public Accountancy is to protect the public by ensuring that persons issued certificates as certified public accountants possess the necessary education, skills, and capabilities and that they perform competently in the profession of public accountancy.

Generally you may, but you cannot call yourself a “Certified Public Accountant” unless you have completed the requirements and obtained a “CPA” license.

Texas CPAs must complete 120 hours of CPE every 3-year Rolling Reporting Cycle including no more than 60 hours in Non-Technical courses. TX CPAs must complete 4 hours in Texas-specific Ethics every 2 years.

A person who meets the education and background requirements of the Board, prior to taking the CPA Exam, and has active credit on the CPA Exam earned as a candidate of another licensing jurisdiction may transfer the credits to Texas.

Where you take the Exam is not dependent on where you intend to practice. CPA Exam test scores can be transferred to any state for the purpose of getting a CPA license.
