California Reciprocity California doesn't offer reciprocity but offers a shorter bar exam for attorneys who are admitted in other states and who have been in good standing as an attorney in those states for at least four years prior to their application.
If you have been fully admitted to the practice of law in any U.S. or foreign jurisdiction, you are qualified to take the California Bar Examination without additional legal education.
The State Bar of California's Committee of Bar Examiners on Friday voted 8-3 to allow bar takers to sit for the exam remotely or in test centers located in other states or countries—provided they take it at the same time as those in California to reduce the risk of cheating.

The State Bar of California includes attorneys who have been educated abroad. You cannot have failed any bar exam in the last five (5) years.You can only have failed two (2) bar exams ever. In California, a foreign lawyer must complete an additional 20 credits of study in an LL.M. Program, including instruction in bar-tested subjects. There are some states which do allow foreign law graduates to sit for the bar exam, including New York, California, New Hampshire, Alabama, and Virginia. If you do not have a qualifying foreign law degree, you are not eligible to take the California bar exam. If you are fully admitted to the practice of law (without any restrictions) in a country outside of the US, you may be eligible to take the California bar exam.
