CPS will work with families, police, the courts, and other agencies to prevent, identify, and treat child abuse and neglect. The Child Protection Law is intended to make reporting simple and places responsibility for determining appropriate action with the Children's. Any emergency report should be made directly to law enforcement. A person who makes a report in good faith is immune from any civil or criminal liability. The Michigan Child Protection Law provides the framework for what CPS must do. Child welfare certificate graduates will be given preference in hiring at MDHHS and private agencies across the state of Michigan (see list).
