The Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario deals directly with all claims of discrimination filed under the Human Rights Code. Ontario's Human Rights Code, the first in Canada, was enacted in 1962.The Canadian Human Rights Act (the Act) has a list of "grounds of discrimination. Canadians have the right to be treated fairly in workplaces free from discrimination, and our country has laws and programs to protect this right. If you believe that you have experienced discrimination or harassment you may be able to file a complaint with The Canadian Human Rights Commission. What do I do if I am experiencing discrimination, harassment or violence at work? If you believe that you were discriminated against based on more than one ground, fill out all the sections that apply. If you believe you have experienced discrimination and wish to make a complaint, you can take the following steps: Complete the complaint self-assessment. (2) Where the ground of discrimination is pregnancy or child-birth, the discrimination shall be deemed to be on the ground of sex. The Code prohibits discrimination only in these five areas and if your Application does not relate to one of these areas, it will be dismissed.
