The minor may not be employed for more than 18 hours during a regular school week and not more than 40 hours during a week that school is not in session. Employers in Pennsylvania must stay compliant with Pennsylvania Child Labor Law when hiring employees that are under the age of 18.Before any minor under the age of 18 becomes employed, the employer must receive from the minor and keep on file an employment certificate. The Pennsylvania Child Labor Act requires all minors ages 14 - 17 to have a work permit in order to be employed. Children under 16 may not be employed in any manufacturing or mechanical occupation or process. Any individual under 18 years of age is considered a minor. This includes minors who are enrolled in college. Pennsylvania's Child Labor Act has distinct provisions for three age categories: under 14, 1415, and 1617. However, employers of minors under age 18 must obtain and keep on file proof of the minor's age. Self-employment would also not fit under the terms established in Section 1330.
