Additional reasons you may be excused from jury service include: A physical or mental impairment, caregiver, or breastfeeding mother - MUST have doctor's statement requesting exemption from jury service. Failure to do so will qualify you to serve.
An employee may not be required or requested to use annual, vacation, personal, or sick leave for time spent responding to a jury summons, time spent participating in the jury selection process, or time spent actually serving on a jury.
If you do not respond or if you respond and do not follow through with reporting, you will be sent an Order to Show Cause. This form will order you to report before a Circuit Court Judge to show cause why you should not be held in contempt of court for failing to appear for jury service.
U.S. citizens at least 18 years old who are residents of the court district to which they are summoned. The jury pool for each court comes from a list of licensed drivers and state ID card holders in the court's district. Those who have been convicted of felony crimes are not eligible for jury service.
Your service term is for one week or one trial – most trials last an average of three days, but occasionally they extend beyond one week.
