The Illinois General Assembly and the Lake County Board have established a per diem reimbursement for jury service.Aside from the defendant, the jurors are the only people in the courtroom not being paid and most will suffer some hardship for participating. The Coroners jurors are paid. The general tax rule requires you to report all jury duty pay on the "other income" line of your Form 1040. You can take a tax deduction, which offsets taxable income, so you only pay taxes on the amount of money you didn't give back. If your employer says no, tell them you are going to tell the court that they (your employer) are refusing to accommodate you. They will give you another date and you report for jury duty.
