Have not been adjudged incompetent by a court. Must be able to read, write and comprehend the English language. Cannot have been convicted of a felony within the last 10 years. Cannot have served on a jury panel within the county within the past year.
By law, the courts will excuse from jury duty anyone with a mental or physical condition that would keep them from serving as a juror. There is not an exemption based on age, but you may request to be excused if you have a hardship that would make it difficult to serve.
Under Tennessee law, a person is qualified to serve as a juror if he or she is (a) a citizen of the United States; (b) a resident of Tennessee, (c) a resident of the county where summoned to be a juror and (d) is at least 18 years old.
Shorts, jeans and t-shirts are not considered appropriate. Our courtrooms are generally very cool and you may wish to bring a sweater or light jacket. Since you will be passing through a metal detector, please leave excess metal and jewelry at home to speed up your entry into the building.
If you must return because you are either sworn on a trial or still in jury selection, report directly to the courtroom as instructed by the judge or courtroom personnel. The Court's term of service is the duration of one day or one trial.
