History. Philadelphia's main Independence Day celebration was started in 1993 by Welcome America, Inc., a non-profit organization. The first event highlighted the opening of the Pennsylvania Convention Center.

Produced in partnership with Live Nation, the concert will be performed at p.m. on Benjamin Franklin Parkway and will be followed by Philadelphia's largest annual fireworks display, courtesy of Wawa, at p.m. About Welcome America, Inc.

The Park at Harlinsdale is the prime spot for viewing the fireworks show in the Tractor Supply Co. Arena featuring music by the Nashville Yacht Club Band starting at 6pm. The show is sponsored by WAKM, and the City of Franklin.

The first show is at 6 p.m. and the second is at midnight.

So when people thought of the Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776 was the date they remembered. In contrast, we celebrate Constitution Day on September 17th of each year, the anniversary of the date the Constitution was signed, not the anniversary of the date it was approved.

By issuing the Declaration of Independence, adopted by the Continental Congress on July 4, 1776, the 13 American colonies severed their political connections to Great Britain. The Declaration summarized the colonists' motivations for seeking independence.

The Constitution was written and signed by a group of delegates in 1787 (years after the Revolutionary War was over) and ratified in 1788.
