San Diego County Superior Court Rule 2.1. 15 states, "A trial readiness conference generally will be scheduled for four weeks before the trial date." The trial readiness conference is an opportunity for the parties to attempt to resolve the case, or at least limit the issues for trial.

You may be excused if you have a serious health problem. If you are sick or injured, you may postpone your service or request an excuse. If you are disabled, you may request a permanent medical excuse. Follow the directions on the summons for postponement or excuse.

For jury instructions to be effective, they must be clear and simple. Sentences should be short; instruc- • tions should contain no more than a few sentences, cover only one topic, and be directly related to the circumstances of the case (they should not be abstract statements of the law).
