If you forget to show up for jury duty they'll send you another strongly worded letter in the mail. Use Google to find the real phone number for the court that is allegedly summoning you and ask them if they've got a summons for you. They probably don't, but if they do it's really easy to ask them to reschedule you.

Reasons for Being Excused from Jury Service Medical reasons. Public necessity. Undue hardship. Dependent care. Student Status. Military conflict. Other reason deemed sufficient by the court.

There is a 2 week grace period in which you may send a letter of explanation to the Jury Services Department and you will be rescheduled. You will receive a new jury summons in the mail approximately 2-3 weeks before your rescheduled appearance date.

After traffic violation or infraction has occurred and a traffic ticket is issued, a defendant can plead not guilty to reduce the fine of a traffic ticket by notifying the court. However, the notification should be sent to the court before the due date stated on the ticket.

While courts will most likely avoid issuing severe penalties for your first time skipping out, there can still be penalties. After failing to appear for jury duty the first time, the court will likely send you a second summons.

First, because a traffic ticket and other class C prosecutions (public intoxication, possession of paraphernalia, assault by contact, etc.) are criminal, you have the right to a jury trial in Texas. This means a jury of six people can be empaneled to decide your guilt or innocence after hearing the evidence.

In Texas, you can be fined anywhere between $100 and $1,000 for failing to appear for jury duty, depending on the circumstances surrounding your failure to appear and how many times you've done so in the past.

Any party is entitled to a trial by jury. A written demand for a jury must be filed no later than 14 days before the date a case is set for trial. If the demand is not timely, the right to a jury is waived unless the late filing is excused by the judge for good cause.

A No Contest plea would be important if you had a wreck or caused damages/injury as a result of the traffic violation and being sued. But some people fell better pleading No Contest as opposed to Guilty if allowed, so do the No Contest.
