Rule 11 was designed to highlight the importance of constitutional rights by requiring the judge in district court to discuss these rights with the defendant before accepting his plea. A jury trial demand is a request to have your case decided by fellow citizens as opposed to the judge should you proceed to trial. The decision to choose or waive a jury trial lies with the defendant.

"Motion to strike jury demand" means that one party has requested a jury trial and the other party is objecting to the request for a jury based on some ground, such as it may be the type of proceeding that a jury is not mandated or that the party asking for a jury has no right to ask for a jury in this manner.
