This act shall be construed liberally to promote the following policies: (1) to simplify, clarify, and modernize the law governing consumer sales practices;. (2) protect consumers from suppliers who engage in referral sellings, commit deceptive acts or practices, or commit unconscionable acts or practices.Utah's laws prohibiting deceptive trade practices are generally limited to prosecuting scams after they happen. A violation of Sections 41-3-406 through 41-3-409 is an unfair or deceptive practice under Title 13, Chapter 11, Utah Consumer Sales Practices Act. Section 1 - Short title. Section 2 - "Person" defined. Section 2. Definitions. We enforce federal competition and consumer protection laws that prevent anticompetitive, deceptive, and unfair business practices. If a company falsely advertises products, either the state or a consumer can file a lawsuit against the company under the Utah deceptive trade practices laws. Intentionally misleading consumers through false advertising is against the law in Utah.
