A 50C Civil No-Contact Order seeks to protect victims of sexual assault, stalking, and other forms of harassment. Victims may be any age, and unlike the 50B protective order, no relationship between the victim and the offender is required.

Using the facts of the incident only, keep your statement brief and to the point. Briefly describe the most recent incident of abuse and/or threats of abuse or other behaviors. Focus on the actual behavior. Do not include prior incidents, (that will be the next paragraph).

All three orders, 50D, 50C and 50B, can protect victims of sexual assault. However, 50D no-contact orders are permanent, whereas 50C and 50B orders must be renewed in person each time the order expires.

Lack of Jurisdiction The respondent can argue that the court does not have jurisdiction to issue a restraining order. This defense can be raised, for instance, if the alleged incidents of domestic violence or harassment did not occur within the jurisdiction of the court.

Key Differences A Harassment Order addresses unwanted behavior that may not necessarily involve physical harm but still causes significant distress to the victim. In contrast, a Restraining Order is typically sought in cases involving a history of violence, physical threat, or other forms of serious harm.

To take out a 50B, you must have a personal relationship with the defendant. This personal relationship is often a family member, a member of your household, or someone you are in a romantic relationship with. 50Cs are against a defendant with whom no such relationship exists.

There is a formal hearing to determine whether to issue the permanent no-contact order, during which the alleged offender has the opportunity to respond. If the judge grants the 50C order, it stays in effect for one year unless it is extended.
