Pregnancy discrimination is against the law. The EEOC enforces three federal laws that protect job applicants and employees who are pregnant.Title VII makes it illegal for employers to discriminate against employees based on sex. The PDA prohibits employers from discriminating against employees on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions. However, even with more women in the workforce with children, pregnancy discrimination has also steadily increased. The NYCHRL prohibits unlawful discrimination in employment, public accommodations, and housing on the basis of actual or perceived pregnancy. Harassment based on pregnancy or a pregnancyrelated medical condition is not allowed under the PDA and ADA. There is a federal law called the Pregnancy Discrimination Act and this law protects women that are having a baby.
