The State Human Rights Law prohibits discrimination based on specific protected classes in employment, housing, credit, places of public accommodations, and non-sectarian educational institutions. Under the State Human Rights Law, every citizen has an “equal opportunity to enjoy a full and productive life.”

The NYSHRL covers all employers in the State of New York. accommodation largely mirror one another, except for how “disability” is defined. The NYSHRL covers housing providers, while the ADA does not, except for a limited provision. proceeding brought under the Human Rights Law or •Otherwise opposing discrimination.

FOR ACTS THAT OCCURRED ON OR AFTER 2/15/2024, you must file your complaint within three years of the most recent act of alleged discrimination. If you were terminated, you must file within three years of the date you were first informed you would be terminated.
