This act was passed to assert the authority of the British government to tax its subjects in North America after it repealed the much-hated Stamp Act. The main thrust of Rule 57 is that actions for declaratory judgment are to be brought in accordance with the Rules.The Declaratory Act of 1766 declared that the British Parliament had the absolute right to tax colonies in North America. Rule 2 also abolishes distinctive "forms of action. " Henceforth all litigation, whatever the claimed basis for relief, will be known as "civil action." The Coercive Acts were meant to break Massachusetts Bay and to warn the other colonies of the consequences of rebellious behavior. This act prohibited American colonies from issuing their own currency, angering many American colonists. Beginnings of Colonial Opposition. The Declaratory Act stated that Parliament had complete control over the governing of the colonies in "all cases whatsoever. The famous quote "No Taxation Without Representation" was created in response to The Stamp Act.
