First, an injunction is a court order delivered in a civil trial or suit. This court order stops the defendant from pursuing a certain activity. This can include constructing a new building, pursuing a business venture, or making transactions that are harmful to the plaintiff.

Example: Cease and Desist A cease and desist order places an injunction on a company or person prohibiting the activities that are deemed suspect. A cease-and-desist order may take the form of a temporary injunction until a trial can be held to determine the outcome or a permanent injunction after the trial concludes.

Normally, the first step in obtaining an injunction is to file suit in the county where the relief you need is to be sought. This petition must be supported by sworn testimony in the form of an affidavit or a verification.
