Teachers typically work 180–190 days a year. As salaried employees, the number of hours you put in to do your job outside of the classroom is up to you. There are some teachers who get all of their work done during the contractual work day, and some who also then spend hours each evening grading things.

U.S. schools are generally open for 180 days of classroom instruction. Add required professional development and workdays to instruction days, and teacher contracts are typically between 185 and 215 days per year in the SREB region.

WORK YEAR AND HOURS 1 The work year shall be 199 days for ten month teachers, 206 days for ten and one-half month teachers, 216 days for eleven month teachers, and 253 days for twelve month teachers as determined by the School Board Calendar.
