If you or the other side want to ask the court to do something in a case, you must ask in written court papers called a Motion or an Order to Show Cause. Best to file this in writing with the clerk of the court AND send a copy to the other side.To set your court date, you must fill out and file the Notice of Court Date (Judges), Kent or Seattle. Explain why you need the hearing to be continued and how much time you need. You should ask your lawyer why he asks for continuances. A continuance is the postponement of a hearing, trial, or other scheduled court proceeding at the request of either or both parties in the dispute. Nothing stops you from filing a motion for continuance. You file it with the clerk of courts.
