The process typically takes one to two days, with food and lodging provided. Step 1: Take the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (ASVAB) ... Step 2: Pass the Physical Examination. Step 3: Meet With a Counselor and Determine a Career. Step 4: Take the Oath of Enlistment. Step 5: After MEPS.
In the military, service members typically do not have the freedom to choose their station or assignment. Instead, assignments are determined by the military's needs, the individual's job specialty, and their rank. However, some factors can influence assignments:
Boards will be held at HQMC to evaluate applicants and make assignments to "short" MOSs ingly. Officers are only required to submit one short MOS choice, but improve their chances of being selected if they list additional choices. Officers will only be considered for MOSs they list on the application.
If not previously completed, you'll take the ASVAB at MEPS. Your score helps determine the Army jobs that best match your skills and mental aptitude.
Once you've enlisted, you'll join other Army Soldiers in the three phases of Basic Combat Training, which usually take about ten weeks depending on your chosen specialty. Once you complete Basic Combat Training, you'll receive your assignment.
Your job assignment will depend on your preferences and where the military most needs your skills at the time of your enlistment. Be fingerprinted for background checks and security clearances.
