As you might expect, it is difficult to obtain a 100% VA disability rating with just one service-connected disability. Most veterans who receive a 100% rating have two or more disabling conditions. Often, these conditions have a secondary service connection.
It opens by listing the veteran's personal information, including their representative (if they have one), VA File number, and the date of the Rating Decision. Next, the veteran will find a short summary of their claim which may include their dates of service, military branch, and the date their claim was received.
If you're thinking of returning to active duty with VA disability in 2021, we have good news. A VA disability rating alone does not prevent you from being able to serve in the military. However, the injury sustained while on active duty could be so severe that it prevents you from being able to return to active duty.
Medal of Honor recipients and veterans with 100% service-connected disability ratings documented by the VA already had access to DoD installations and commissary, exchange and MWR facilities.
It's certainly possible. You'll want to start by contacting a recruiter and letting them know you would like to join the Guard or Reserves. Disabled vets join reserves all the time but remember, you are still required to meet the standard criteria, including appropriate weight and age.
Simply having a VA disability rating does not prevent someone from joining the military. However, the underlying medical condition may prevent someone from medically qualifying to serve again. For example, you can receive a VA disability rating for knee surgery that you had while on active duty.

You have one year from the date you send in your intent to file to submit your claim. If a claim is not received within one year, the intent to file expires. If you file for disability compensation online, you do not need to notify VA of your intent to file.
Include how the condition effects you socially and occupationally. Include why you believe it was caused or exacerbated by military service and how it acts your life in general. Also, look up the rating criteria for each condition and include the information that pertains to you.
Veterans and Survivors are encouraged to work with a Veterans Service Officer who can file the information online through the Stakeholder Enterprise Portal. Forms may be downloaded at .va/vaforms. Claimants may call 1-800-827-1000 to have the correct form sent to their homes.
